Rachael's grandfather Emmanuel Scuderi immigrated to America from Sicily. He was a talented stone mason, great cook, and one of the most influential people in Rachael's life. The family of John Cusimano, Rachael's husband, is also Italian, so it makes sense that the couple spends as much time as they can in Italy. In the summer of 2009, they decided to try something a little different. Instead of staying at a resort or hotel for their week's vacation, they rented a house together in Sicily with some of their closest friends. Rachael explains why it was her favorite vacation of all. In this short video interview, Rachael reminisces about the trip, and offers a tip that could keep anyone who ventures into a Sicilian outdoor market out of trouble!
By the way, Rachael has made 9 of her cookbook recipes available to DishandDiners! Here's a link to the list. Thanks, Rach! Or, as they'd say in Sicily: Grazie Rachael Domenica!
