Cafe Sacher, located in the famous Hotel Sacher located on Philharmonikerstrasse off of the Kartnerstrasse shopping district, is home to the original Sachertorte, one of Vienna's most famous culinary specialties created by Franz Sacher in 1832. Apparently, the original recipe is still a well-kept secret.

As a visitor to the city, you are told by EVERYBODY to try the original Sachertorte, so like any good tourist, I visited Cafe Sacher and ordered the Sachertorte with a cup of Viennese coffee (with cream and cinnamon - the works).

The interior of Cafe Sacher is very luxurious and the waitstaff is really efficient and courteous (and fluent in practically all languages as a testament to their catering to tons of tourists). The sachertorte itself is a very rich and dense chocolate cake. It is also very dry so it is served with a dollop of unsweetened whipped cream. I'm personally not a big fan of cream (even the cream in the coffee was too much for me), so I couldn't really use the cream to offset the dryness of the sachertorte and it wasn't really to my taste, although I definitely appreciated that it wasn't overly sweet. Nonetheless, if you're in Vienna, Cafe Sacher is definitely worth stopping by and checking out.
